Generalization of Conway's "Game of Life" to a continuous domain - SmoothLife

Stephan Rafler

Abstract

We present what we argue is the generic generalization of Conway's "Game of Life" to a continuous domain. We describe the theoretical model and the explicit implementation on a computer.

    • Well, there is SmoothLife (e.g. https://www.arxiv-vanity.com/papers/1111.1567/#S4) where the time step is also made continuous. I suppose you could extend this so that this isn't some uniform value across the entire space, but instead a value that is constantly recomputed based…

    • Aren't cellular automata in continuous space just PDE's? If so, what is the equation being integrated? EDIT: found the paper: http://arxiv.org/pdf/1111.1567v2.pdf
