The modern record for a matter-wave superposition stands at a nanoparticle composed of roughly 7,000 sodium atoms (about 8 nanometers wide), achieving a massive "Schrödinger's cat" state at the scale of a small virus. So then particles don't exist, and viruses also don't exist? Is "reality" just a dynamic pattern that doesn't exist in the naive sense? As astute stoics we should not worry ourselves with such matters, "shut up and calculate"? There is something about quantum theory that is different in character from any physical theory posed before. To put a finger…

Paper and discussion history. I think your first objection is to the idea that nothing physical is actually happening during the collapse of the wave function. On this I completely agree and I apologise for having used very poor phrasing. When I said "merely a reflection" I didn't intend to mean that nothing physical is occurring. I meant that (according to QBism) there is not a real objective quantum system whose real objective quantum state irreversibly collapses into a single real objective pure state. Rather, an agent has a physical interaction…

Paper and discussion history. This is to deny that quantum theory is a description of an objective, observer-independent reality. Rather it is a kind of "personal rule book" which informs an agent's beliefs about future interactions with the world. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_Bayesianism https://arxiv.org/pdf/1003.5209.pdf

Paper and discussion history.
